Using the date as a form field

This seems so simple that I would have thought it would be in the comments within formmail. I want to have a hidden field called date, and then when the visitor submits the form, it would write the date as one of the included fields to the CSV File. I know when I use the email option it includes the date as one of the fields. But how do I include the date when I only want a CSV file. I want one of the fields to be the date that the visitor sent the request from the onsite form. It seems like this is something that everyone would want for a csv file. What am I missing?
