View Full Version : Easier access to configuration options
15-Feb-2006, 03:24 PM
I've been setting up Tectite FormMail for a number of different domains, and the biggest thing I've found to be a problem is finding the configuration options every time. There are a lot of small changes (change the template directory, change the domain name) that I have to do every time I use the script on a different site, and I find myself taking more time looking for the options than actually changing them. I would find it much easier just to have a solid configuration "block" at the top of the PHP file, or in a seperate config file (included PHP file, perhaps).

Thanks for the feedback.
We're looking into improving this situation shortly.
BTW, a good text editor with good search features helps. But, I know it's still a difficulty.

If the configuration options aren't in a subroutine, would it be possible just to move them all to another file and put in an include()? (Yeah, I could try it, but at the moment I'm deep into another project.)

Yes, but that actually complicates things for most people (two files are harder to manage than one).
And, part of the problem is the large amount of documentation. Simply moving the configs to another file doesn't solve that problem.

FormMail has now been upgraded and had its configuration documentation and version history moved to the main website.
To upgrade, use the Wizard (http://www.tectite.com/vbforums/../wizards/fmupg.php) and select version 8.00.
