    Default upload attachments

    Hello,
I am very happy to join your forum.
    I have two questions:
    1) I am using a FormMail.cgi Version 1.92, does this version support uploading attachments like images?
    2) Which script is better FormMail.pl or php?
Thank you Russell for your fast response in my registration trouble.

    Hi,

If you're using version 1.92 of our FormMail, then no, it doesn't support file uploading.

The latest version does. You can easily upgrade using the FormMail Upgrade Wizard here: http://www.tectite.com/wizards/fmupg.php

FormMail.pl (available from other companies) is written in an old language called Perl. There's nothing wrong with "old", because it usually also means "stable".

However, I personnally stopped programming in Perl over 12 years ago. I found it to be a language lacking in certain features and prone to creation of bugs and errors. Many Perl FormMail's have had serious security problems.

FormMail.php uses a much better language (in my opinion) than Perl. Namely, PHP. PHP is becoming a major force on the Internet, and we have found it to be stable and reliable.

As an end-user, you really only need to be concerned with the features of the particular product and whether it's easy to configure and whether you can get support.

    Obviously, we recommend our FormMail.

    Hey Russel,
    Thanks for the quick response.
Is the file supposed to attach to the email or upload to the server.
How would I know where to look for it on my server if this is the case.
If its not, what might the reason be for the abscence of the attachment in the email.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi,

    It attaches to the email.

So, the first thing you want to do is make sure you're getting basic forms sending you email OK.

Also, check that FormMail can send you alert messages - it's the only way FormMail can tell you about errors.

Then add the file field, and you should get an attachment.

If you don't get the file, you should get an alert message saying why.

Is the alert value in the php?
    What line?
This is what I get in the email along with the basic form info I had sent:
    uploaded_file: ÐÏ à¡± á

hey russel, I copied and pasted the HTML for the upload and there was a " missing before upload...maybe that was my problem.

    Hi,

DEF_ALERT is the setting below TARGET_EMAIL in formmail.php.

Once you've set your email address, you can test alerts with:
    http://www.yoursite.com/formmail.php?testalert=1

Yes, errors in your HTML will break most things.

Also, don't forget that you have to set "enctype" in your HTML form tag.

    everything's working swell.
    Thanks again.
You might want to edit your post with the missing " for all us copy and paste retards, so you don't get this email again.
