Are you using $TEMPLATEDIR or $TEMPLATEURL in formmail.php, and if so what is the setting?
Welcome to the Tectite Forums! You can download and get support for our free PHP FormMail (form processor) and other free software.
Hello All: I have been running version 8.11 of FM and version 1.17 of FM Bad Handler virtually problem free now on several forms for nearly 18 months. Suddenly when forms are submitted I am getting a consistent error starting with:
"Cannot open template..." and it gives the url of the error template, followed by lots of indecipherable data. The conclusion of the extensive error message is "[function fopen] failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found."
This occurs even if the form is submitted properly! No changes were made to the forms or the scripts, yet this error has recently started to occur with each form. I checked the host server, not sure if they recently updated but they are running Apache 2.2.11 (unix).
I am linking to a form example here. I removed all of the "Required" entries except First Name for easy submission. No forms are functioning. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using $TEMPLATEDIR or $TEMPLATEURL in formmail.php, and if so what is the setting?
Hello Ginger. I am not using $TEMPLATEDIR, however my setting for $templateurl is
$TEMPLATEURL = "http://www.hillmanb2.com/fmtemps";
That is where each of my templates are located. I hope this helps. Thanks.
Try changing from $TEMPLATEURL to $TEMPLATEDIR. (You'll need to remove the contents of $TEMPLATEURL.)
Also, note that $TEMPLATEDIR is a server path, not a url, so you'll need to find the server path to your template directory by running testalert and getting the path to your document root, then adding the rest of the path to your template directory.
Got it Ginger23. I certainly will and I'll let you know the results. Thanks.
Problem Resolved! Ginger23, the problem was in FM Badhandler. For some strange reason I had to go in and redirect the settings to the templates folder. I have not published FM Badhandler for several months and everything worked fine until yesterday. I have no idea what occurred on the serve side, but you certainly helped by pointing me to the Templatdir setting. Thanks again for your help! Enjoy your day.
Glad you got it sorted out.![]()
