Default ReCAPTCHA not catching bad entries.

    Hi,

    I am a new user.

My form is sending me emails, but the ReCaptcha does not catch an INCORRECT ENTRY.

The form sends the email regardless of what is entered in ReCaptcha text box.

    Here is my test form:

    Thanks,
    James

    Hi,

Inside FormMail's Configuration Section you'll find a setting called $REQUIRE_CAPTCHA.

You can read about it here: http://www.tectite.com/fmdoc/require_captcha.php

    Have you set that value?

If not, then that will be the problem.

If you'd like me to login to your server and test your form (and fix whatever the problem is) please send access details using this secure form: https://secure.rootsoftware.com/~tectite/sendsecret.php

    Thanks Russell,

I updated that field and an incorrect entry now sends me to a page with following (last line is my text value for $REQUIRE_CAPTCHA).

    ------
The following error occurred in FormMail :

    missing_fields

Error=The form required some values that you did not seem to provide.

Spam Checker Failed -- Please click the back button and enter the two new words.
    ------

    1. Even with the error - the form data was emailed to me via FormMail script error... can this be turned off once everything is working?
    2. If ReCaptcha input failure, can I redirect to a customized error page on my site instead and also put in a RETURN TO FORM button with saved entries from user?

    Thanks again.

That last line is the message you put in $REQUIRE_CAPTCHA, right?

Yes, this is to help you develop your form and check how your users are working with it.

The setting to change is ALERT_ON_USER_ERROR.

    2. If ReCaptcha input failure, can I redirect to a customized error page on my site instead and also put in a RETURN TO FORM button with saved entries from user?
Yes. So the next step is to create your own error template and implement FMBadHandler.

    The instructions are here: http://www.tectite.com/fmhowto/adverror.php

You'll need to do this because "clicking the back button" will not work reliably on some browsers. The user's fields will not be kept.

Also, your error template can show messages in your own page and with your own formatting.

    Thanks once again Russell,

I will get to work using FMBadHandler.

One question I forgot to ask:
For a successful form and Captcha, what is the setting where I select custom URL for success?

    Hi Russell,

It now seems that I am getting the default error page per my above message even if I input the correct Captcha...

    Any ideas?

It's a hidden field you put in your HTML called "good_url".

Here's the HOW TO guide: http://www.tectite.com/fmhowto/redir.php
