    Default verifyimg CAPTCHA works, CAPTCHA Creator doesn't

    Hello all,

    I am trying to install the CAPTCHA Creator script but it always fails with the message:

    There was a problem with the form.

    Your entry did not match the image

    ...even when I'm sure the text is entered correctly.

    The CAPTCHA Creator code is directly from their site (with what I think are the correct modifications) and looks like this:

    <table cellpadding=5 cellspacing=0 bgcolor="#E4F8E4">
    <tr bgcolor="#AAD6AA">
    <td colspan="2"><font color="#FFFFFF" face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Image Verification</b></font></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td style="padding: 2px;" width="10"><img src="http://www.mysitename.com/captcha/captchac_code.php" id="captcha"></td>
    <td valign="top"><font color="#000000">Please enter the text from the image</font> <br><input type="text" name="imgverify" value="" maxlength="100" size="10">
    [ <a href="#" onclick=" document.getElementById('captcha').src = document.getElementById('captcha').src + '?' + (new Date()).getMilliseconds()">Refresh Image</a> ] [ <a href="http://www.mysitename.com/captcha/whatisturing.html" onClick="window.open('http://www.mysitename.com/captcha/whatisturing.html','_blank','width=400, height=300, left=' + (screen.width-450) + ', top=100');return false;">What's This?</a> ]
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>

    I tried simply replacing the CAPTCHA Creator code with the FormMail code:

    <img src="http://www.mysitename.com/verifyimg.php" alt="Image verification" name="vimg" />
    <br />
    To submit this form, please enter the characters you see in the image:
    <input type="text" size="12" name="imgverify" />

    and then it verifies correctly. I'm changing nothing else.

    Any ideas? Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

    Sorry to reply to my own post, but I'm a bit frustrated to have paid for CAPTCHA Creator because it was presented as easily integrated with Form Mail and I can't get it to work.

    As I indicated in my original post, the FormMail CAPTHA tool works fine and when I replace it with the CAPTCHA Creator code it doesn't work. So I'm out $35 for CAPTCHA Creator and can't use it. Many people have viewed my question but no one has any ideas? Did I post in the wrong forum?

    Thank you to anyone who can help.

    Hi,

    I haven't used Captcha Creator so I really don't have any first-hand knowledge about it other than what's available in the documentation. There used to be a forum here dedicated to Captcha Creator that I'm sure would have the solution to your problem, but for whatever reason it's no longer accessible.

    I'm just throwing out ideas here even though according to the documentation it doesn't seem like the following change should be necessary, but maybe try naming the field Turing and using derive_fields to give imgverify the same value:

    HTML Code:
    <input type="text" name="Turing" value="" maxlength="100" size="10">
    <input type="hidden" name="derive_fields" value="imgverify=Turing">
    Also, did you make the field required?

    Just throwing out ideas since no one has responded and the posts about Captcha Creator are no longer accessible. I understand your frustration, but it really should be directed at the programmer who wrote Captcha Creator. They should support their product.

    ginger23:

    Thank you for the reply. Perhaps Captcha Creator isn't used very much any longer by Tectite FormMail users and that is why there is no longer a forum dedicated to it and why there has only been your reply to my question.

    Your suggestion to try deriving the fields was a good one, just as a troubleshooting tactic, but, unfortunately, it did not solve the problem.

    To answer your other question, yes, the Turing/imgverify field is required. Which I think is why it's saying "Your entry did not match the image" on my error page. Or maybe it would say that even if the field wasn't required.

    This raises another related question: When you make a field required should it be the derived field name or the original field name? I'm assuming you use the derived name in the required field since that is what the formmail script is going to see. Am I right?

    Anyway, I continue to have problems and perhaps you are right that I should ask the programmer at CAPTCHA Creator what is going wrong. After all, they are the ones I paid for the script.

    Thank you for your help.

    Did you ever get it to work? I've been using it and I had some issues but managed to get through them. I'm no coder but perhaps I can help.

    No bgrega, I have not gotten it to work yet. Did you have a similar problem to the one I'm describing? Where CAPTCHA Creator fails with the "Your entry did not match the image" message?

    I'm not doing anything unusual, as far as I can tell, it's just a standard, by the book install, so I'm puzzled as to why it's not functioning as it is supposed to.

    Also, FYI, I have not had a chance to contact CAPTCHA Creator yet and get their input as ginger23 suggested.

    Thanks for any help you can provide with how you resolved the issue.

    This raises another related question: When you make a field required should it be the derived field name or the original field name?
    It should be the name used for the input field, not the derived field name.

    Also, what is your directory structure as far as where formmail.php and the captcha creator script are located?

    Are you using the Autorespond feature by any chance?

    Hi ginger23,

    Thank you for your continued help with this.

    To answer your questions:

    No, I am not using the Autorespond feature.

    The directory structure is like this:

    siteroot>directory1>page-with-form.php
    siteroot>directory1>subdirectory1>formmail.php
    siteroot>captcha>this is the captcha creator directory as downloaded

    And herein may lie the problem. I can get the CAPTCHA creator image to appear since I'm pointing to the script directly in the <img> tag:

    <img src="http://www.mysite.com/captcha/captchac_code.php" id="captcha">

    ...but where in the formmail.php script does one set the directory for the CAPTCHA creator code? The instructions on the FormMail pages don't seem to indicate this is necessary. Is it? It seems like you should have to tell formmail.php where to look to find the captcha creator code. Where is that done?

    Thank you for any further help on this.

    I don't know since I don't have the script, but try putting formmail.php in your root with the captcha folder directly beneath that. (While you're at it you might as well put the form in the root as well, to see what happens.)

    (Of course, don't forget to edit the path to the script as well as to captcha creator in the form itself.)
