Default More advanced anti-spam measure please (without captcha)

We don't want to bother my customers with a captcha.

On the other hand we don't like the random noise we receive thru the form either:

    Suggestions:
    1. block submissions from senders where email domain is:
    a. non-existant
    b. doesn't contain mx-records
    c. mx records point to non-public/bogus ip-space: 127.*;5.*;10.*;192.168.*; etc.

We would also love to hear your suggestions what we can already do with current version of tectite formmail script.

Reverse/negative captcha has been effective for me.

    Hi,

    Suggestions:
    1. block submissions from senders where email domain is:
    a. non-existant
    b. doesn't contain mx-records
    c. mx records point to non-public/bogus ip-space: 127.*;5.*;10.*;192.168.*; etc.
These features are coming, but won't be there until version 9.0. At least a month away.

We need to re-factor most of the code to efficiently perform these more complex tasks.

Before that version, we're also looking at ways to specifically detect these junk spam submissions.

This should be available in the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, as ginger23 suggests, use Reverse Captcha.

    Hi,

Just in case you weren't watching the automatic update notifications, we've now implemented this spam detection: http://www.tectite.com/fmdoc/attack_detection_junk.php

This is a great start but blocking IP's and email address would be very usefull.
The captcha does a great job but I'd like the option to be able to block a group of emails IE (soandso@hotmail.com or @mail.ru etc) or pieces of ip so if I want to ban IP addy 204.223.34.1 or 204._______ (everything in that range) I can. With some options added. Meaning that the list is hidden from view of the user, and options to notify of rejects much the same way other failed submissions get reported. The blacklist is a start I guess.

I know PHP applications such as vbulletin utilize this to block registrations etc.

I agree. I have avoided captcha and have a solution.
Check out my posting 'junk email attacks' posted 8/25/09 by bmiland.
I have several websites and forms and have never had an attack since
    implementing this approach.
