Oatmeal is right on. If you set Dreamweaver not to rewrite or reorganize your tags and code, it's perfectly fine to use in code view. I prefer textwrangler because it's easier to browse the code and it's a much lighter/quicker interface...

For years I have been developing websites including CMSs like Joomla and Wordpress sites with Dreamweaver MX, editing PHP files, and I thought there had been no problems with it.

But after trying to get Formmail.PHP to work, I find out that Dreamweaver does indeed modify the file, making Formmail spit out error codes when testing.

I tried Oatmeal's suggestion of going to DW's Preferences and disabling the re-write options and it did not work.

I edited formmail.php with notepad it worked!

I downloaded Notepad++, tested it, and it worked.

I'm still actually quite shocked. There may have been one or two occassions in the past where I encountered errors with causes I could not locate, causing me hours of grief and now I'm thinking, perhaps they were caused by me editing PHP files in DW.

CHMOD000, thank you for referring us to Notepad++.

CaptainDEEZ, the link for Notepad ++ is http://notepad-plus-plus.org

I like many features of DW and I may still use its interface to work with HTML but I have to look for another way of editing PHP. I don't know if the newer versions of Dreamweaver does not cause the error. I don't know if I can still upgrade being that my DW is still MX 2004. I think it's too expensive to upgrade anyway especially with less costly alternatives.

I use Dreamweaver and Photoshop to create a web page because they are the best tool for designing a webpage.I haven't faced the problem of messing anything.

Hi, I'm going to have to agree. I work with PHP files every day, always in Dreamweaver, and have never had any issues. Thanks.
