    Default INI file not read

    This is the result when my form is submitted with DB_SEE_INI set 'true':

    The following settings were found in the file 'usr/local/pem/vhosts/*****/webspace/cgi-bin/formmail.ini':

    Your form submission was processed by (8.16), available from www.tectite.com.

    My INI file contains:

    [email_addresses]
    me = "boss@mydomain.com"

    It seems it can't be read! I have moved it about the site & still not reading. Tested similar on another site & the DB_SEE_INI reveals content. Could it have something to do with the SSL cert on the domain?

    I don't know the answer about the SSL certificate, but I don't think you want to put INI files in your cgi-bin. Some hosts won't allow reading of certain types of files in the cgi-bin. They should (ideally) be above the root, or else placed in a directory protected by .htaccess.

    I placed it in the cgi-bin as this is only folder above the root that my linux host gives me access to. It works on my other websites but not on this SSL domain.

    As I said, I have tried placing it below the root; still the contents are not read & I receive Invalid Recipients warnings to DEF_ALERT.

    Permissions:
    cgi-bin: 750
    ini file: 644

    I have upgraded to version 8.21 as this domain runs PHP5.
    DB_SEE_INI is set to 'true'

    Now I don't get the DB_SEE_INI page showing, just the standard error page & email to DEF_ALERT:

    The following error occurred in FormMail :
    bad_ini
    **********
    Error=The FormMail INI file 'usr/local/pem/vhosts/*****/webspace/cgi-bin/formmail.ini' has a syntax error
    The INI still contains a basic email address & I can not see any errors!?

    I have deleted the INI file & started again in Notepad.
    Still get the same error...

    Tried saving in UTF-8 not ANSI
    Still get the same error...

    Someone else reported this type of error message recently, and theirs turned out to be a problem with the server path. (Not a syntax error at all, so I'm not sure why that error message.)

    This sounds like it might be a path problem as well. What does the setting for FORM_INI_FILE look like?

    It looks like this:

    $FORM_INI_FILE = "usr/local/pem/vhosts/*****/webspace/cgi-bin/formmail.ini";

    Does that reflect the secure server path?

    SERVER_DOCUMENT_ROOT

    /usr/local/pem/vhosts/*****/webspace/httpsdocs/MYDOMAIN

    I would put the INI file in the root of the secure directory:

    /usr/local/pem/vhosts/*****/webspace/httpsdocs/MYDOMAIN/formmail.ini

    . . . and adjust your FORM_INI_FILE setting accordingly.
