Default Preventing PHP session details showing in URL when responding

I do not have this problem with any of my other uses of formmail but with the latest using version 8.36 what I assume is PHP session details is appearing in the URL when the 'Thank you ...' page appears after successful completion of a form with CAPTCHA
    e.g. .com.au/thanks.htm?PHPSESSID=8*******
This looks odd and I wonder if it makes spam/hacking more likely?
How do I prevent this info appaering in the URL?
    Your help would be appreciated.

Default Re: Preventing PHP session details showing in URL when responding

Can anybody help? I am even more concerned that I have the PHP session details showing in the good_url now I have read this on another forum:

The first time a page is accessed, PHP doesn't yet know if the browser is accepting cookies or not, so after session_start() is called, SID will be non-empty, and the PHPSESSID gets inserted in all link URLs on that page that are properly using SID.

This has the consequence that if, for example, a search engine bot hits your home page first, all links that it sees on your home page will have the ugly PHPSESSID=... in them.

This appears to be the default behavior. A work-around is to turn on session.use_only_cookies, but then you lose session data for anyone who has their cookies turned off.
